What should I expect in a therapy session?

In our sessions, you can expect a safe, empathetic space to explore your thoughts and feelings without fear of criticism or judgement. You’ll have the opportunity to discuss your challenges openly, receive support, and develop coping strategies.

Each session is tailored to your unique needs and goals. We may explore past experiences that influence your present, identify patterns in your behaviour, and work on developing effective coping mechanisms.

It’s also important to know that therapy is a gradual process. Building trust and a strong therapeutic relationship is key, and I prioritise your comfort and safety.

What should I do if I feel nervous about starting therapy?

It’s completely natural to feel nervous about starting (or restarting) therapy. I remember feeling self-doubt and vulnerability as a client and realize it can be daunting to step into the new and unknown, especially when exploring aspects of our life that we find challenging. However, it’s often these areas that hold the most potential for growth.

The therapeutic space is one of safety, empathy, and non-judgement. I remind clients that they set the pace and agenda of their sessions and we can proceed as slowly or as quickly as you feel comfortable. The initial sessions are an opportunity to build trust and establish a rapport, allowing you to become more at ease with the process.

Additionally, it’s helpful to remind yourself that seeking therapy is a courageous step towards self-awareness and growth. We can explore any initial anxieties together, ensuring you feel supported throughout your therapeutic journey and it’s perfectly okay to voice any concerns or questions you have at any time.

What is the Person-centred approach?

The person-centred approach is grounded in the belief that every individual possesses an inherent capacity for achieving personal growth and it emphasizes respect for your autonomy and individuality.

Within this approach the therapeutic relationship is seen as collaborative and instead of directing or advising, I act as a facilitator, fostering an environment where you feel valued and heard and helping you to uncover and understand your own experiences and emotions. We’ll focus on your current feelings and experiences rather than delving too much into diagnoses or past issues (unless you choose to). This method promotes self-awareness and personal insight, empowering you to find your own solutions and pathways to growth.

What is an Integrative Therapist?

As an Integrative Therapist I look to blend techniques from various therapeutic modalities to best address my client’s unique needs; acknowledging that no single therapy fits all. The goal is to harness the strengths of multiple approaches to provide the most effective and personalised therapeutic experience.

I draw on diverse methods, such as cognitive-behavioral, humanistic and psychodynamic therapies as well as coaching and solution focused therapy so that each session is tailored to each clients personal references and goals.

What is Solution-focused therapy?

Rather than focusing solely on issues or problems Solution-focused therapy is a goal-oriented approach that emphasizes finding solutions. It looks to draw on a client’s strengths and resources and encourages them to envision a future where their issues are resolved. By exploring what they want to achieve and how they can use their existing skills, this therapy helps to create practical steps towards positive change while anticipating potential obstacles so these can be worked on in a supportive environment.
